(under-development, poverty, exclusion, exploitation, violence or
conflicts, breach of human rights or basic rights, failure of social
security care, catastrophes)
MAIN ACTIVITIES
:
Ciao Kids
Foundation is particularly active on
behalf of disabled children, whatever the cause and nature of their
disability: genetic or prenatal problems, illness, accident,
violence or malnutrition, physical or intellectual impairment or
sensory deficiencies.
 |
Ciao Kids was founded by Edith Stecher, of Lausanne though born in Graubünden,
who dedicated herself to the succor of deprived children in India.
In 1999, she decided to found an orphanage for young disabled, which
led to the establishment and opening in 2000 of the Olivia Centre.
|
Just
before leaving
a training on the job in an
work placement in an orphanage in Southern India,
she made a promise to a little boy called Derrick. One day, she
would come back for him. She immediately set about finding a house
in Bangalore. Following a 3-month search, on the verge of giving
up, she met someone who proved key to the realization of her plans.
A woman she had never met before gave her the means and the courage
to have her own house built. This was how the Olivia Home was
born. The Home opened its doors on 13th November 2000
and, as promised, Derrick (along with Noël) was transferred to the
Olivia Home on 29th March 2001.
