Prithi Sangeetha Mahadevamma, née le 16 octobre 2000

It was a rainy cold night. Bluff is situated 15km from Jageri away on the National Highway 209, to Bangalore. Mathesan our Manager with his wife Shanti went by TV’s50 to Hand-Post and from there by Rickshaw to Bluff. Prithi’s native place is a beautiful tourist area with huge waterfalls and electric centrals.

Puttaswamy, Pritti’s Father is a young man about 35 years old. He married Mahadevamma (25). They were both very poor. Mahadevamma delivered Prithi by caesarean at the Government Hospital. The Doctor got difficulty; during operation was cut-off over 10min and the Hospital generator was out of order. He was on the point to close the womb of the patient and because of that power cut he stopped sewing the mother. Later on in the night she complained about pain and the case became serious. She was transerred to Mysore Gouvernment Hospital. Mahadevamma died soon after registration. Puttaswamy was left back alone with a newborn baby in his arms and an aged Mother to care for. He did not know how to manage the family.

A member of the K.E.B. from Bluff, Mr. Lingaya Sana Rajaya and his wife Devamma, daily provided with little milk to the baby, but it was not sufficient at all. The baby would have died if they hadn’t found a very soon a solution .

Prithi’s life is a "fairy tale"!

We had no phone that time, but men are good chatters. Sometimes it can save lives; there are no doubts this time it was for the good cause.

Puttaswamy and his wife were very poorly installed, in a hut house without door, without toilets, without kitchen. One room, not even a mat on the ground where to sleep. Their only income, some goats! After the dead of Mahadevamma his wife, he was somehow lost, did not know what to do with his aged Mother and the newborn child, how to feed them. He told to his friend; he would never kill the baby; he trusted and believed so much in God, someone would surely come and help him.

Mr. Lingaya Sana Rajaya helped them as far as they could. All this talking came to the ears of K.E.B. officers and the guardian of the forest department. They spread out it largely all over the area till Malavalli. Finally one officer decided to speak to our student P. Madesh, who daily went by Bus to college to Kollegal. This officer knew Madesh and also that he worked in Jageri.

On 21.11 00, Madesh came, out of breath, speaking about this incredible story.

While Mathesan and Shanti went pick-up the baby, we prepared the place, bed and clothes. Claudia, our young German volunteer Nurse, was very exited to get a baby child and suggested to take personally care of the child, what we joyfully agreed.

I spent the half night searching for a baby name. Finally I chose the names of Prithi: (Gods loved one), and Sangitha: a (lyric poem), and Mahadevamma: to remember her beloved Mother.

The baby was only skin and bones. She cried much as she arrived. We prepared some milk and Claudia started day and night duty!!

Prithi spent some month with her Godmother Claudia. On 15th March Claudia left India.

After the heavy rain Mr. Lingaya Sana Rajaya came to Olivia asking for help. Puttaswamy’s House fall down, nothing left. We decided soon to help them to rebuild a new House. We donated a sum of 15’750.00 rupees and the Government donated 20’000.-. The House has no electricity and no water supply, but a roof.

From 2006, yearly we go with Prithi to her native place to wish her Grandmother and father. She has many relatives there. We asked her last year, if she wishes to settle with her family and she decides not to go and to stay with her guardian parents.

She's 7 years old, is in 2nd standard English medium at Kollegal. She is a smart and intelligent child, well educated without any problems.
